Dr Gafoor is original from Pietermaritzburg where he matriculated with Exemption from Raisethorpe Secondary School in 1995. 

Personal Information

Dr Shiraz Gafoor is married, and his hobbies include road running. He has completed 6 Comrades Marathons, and 6 Two Oceans Marathons.

Education and Training

He qualified with an MBBCh from Wits University in 2001 with FCP (SA) in 2007 with Certification in Clinical Bone Densitometry in 2008 and Certification in Cardiology (SA) in 2012.
He served his Internship from 1 January 2002 until 31 December 2002 in Grey’s, Edendale and Northdale Complex Hospitals in Pietermaritzburg.
He did his Community Service at Dundee Hospital from 1 January to 31 December 2003.
His Registrar training was completed at the Department of Internal Medicine, University of KwaZulu-Natal from 1 January 2004 to 31 December 2007 where he obtained FCP (SA) in October 2007.
He trained as a Junior Specialist at the Division of Geriatrics, Department of Medicine, King Edward V111 Hospital in October 2008 with a Certification in Clinical Bone Densitometry.
From 1 March 2009 to 30 September 2009 he worked as Senior Specialist at the Department of Internal Medicine, Mahatma Gandhi Hospital.
He obtained his Cardiology Fellowship from Inkosi Albert Luthuli Hospital, Durban with a Certification in Cardiology (SA) in May 2012.
He worked as a Cardiology Consultant at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Hospital and Greys Hospital from 1 October 2012 to 30 September 2013.
He joined the Private Practice of Dr J Patel and Company in October 2013.
He thereafter entered Private Practice at Lenmed Ethekwini Hospital and Heart Centre as an independent cardiologist on 1 February 2016. He was joined by his partner Dr Ismail Soosiwala on 1 April 2016.
